World of Warcraft PvP (player vs player for those unfamiliar with the abbreviation,) offers a marvelous system for rewarding the bloodthirsty and determined players of either faction. Often times you may find yourself marveling if the only way to achieve the lovely purple radiance we all desire is to raid. Well, I am rather happy to be capable to inform you that it is in fact the precise opposite of this. Raiding and dungeoning in general is merely one means to an end, and one that often plainly rewards you with better gear for more dungeoning, rather than setting you up in a better position for slaughtering other players, which is what I enjoy.

Two definitive methods of benefitting gear, weapons, armor, trinkets, etc. may be found in the comparatively not long ago added PvP Arenas and Battlegrounds. Although these two dissimilar methods of slaying players for respective rewards offer exclusively dissimilar sets and selections, often times times players will combine attempts and will compete not only in the Arenas, as necessitated each week, but will likewise run a great deal of Battlegrounds in order to achieve at least a sidegrade or little upgrade whilst waiting to achieve the superior Arena gear.

A remarkable divergence amid the reward sets in the Arena and the level 70 PvP armor set is that the Arena armor all functions as a set. The blue set from honor points also has various standalone pieces, these being epic, that even though not an actual “set” item do fit with the rest of the armor. The purple person pieces would be the boots, bracers, and belt, the rest of the armor being blue and part of the PvP set itself.

One thing I will state, the Arena gear is without doubt or question better than the Battlegrounds/honor point gear. It is, however, far more fixed in it is availability due to the greatest or most complete or best possible amount of points one may achieve per week in the Arena. Also, as a frequent note, Arena games are often times much harder to win than any battles within the Battlegrounds or even in world PvP. Each Arena game involves a fight versus another prepared and many times skilled team of players ranging from two to five people, who are ready to oppose you and your team. They may even be rather experienced in working together, while your team may have just met.

Another thing I have noticed is that the Arena weaponry is vastly superior to the honor point/blue weaponry. Many players would find it beneficial to save up for an Arena weapon while taking part in Battlegrounds to gain the lesser armor set. This will provide a good combining of gear until you may wholly achieve the Arena armor set.

Basically, the most effective method of gearing yourself if you’ve just hit level 70 is to run Battlegrounds like a madman (or madwoman, if applicable) and do your allotted Arena games on the side all around the week. So, go earn that gear!

87 of 107 people found the following review helpful.
Great game, great close to the trilogy
By Stephen M. Lerch
I’ve only spent a few short hours with the campaign and some of the Horde 2.0, but so far, this game is turning out to be exactly what Epic and Microsoft promised, an amazing close to a great game series.

Additions to the core campaign most people will like would be 4 player co-op. Always wanted that in the previous games, but the way they were designed it really only felt right with 2 players. This time every mission requires a team of 4, which means real 4 player co-op is possible and quite fun. Playing the campaign alone isn’t bad, but as I’ve read in reviews and agree, it really is meant to be played with real people. Playing with the equivalent of bots allows you to enjoy the game but it won’t be as rich of an experience in my opinion.

You still have the cog tag collection hunt, along with the little collectible bits of paperwork strewn throughout the game just as in previous games in the series.

Another cool addition, for those playing co-op, is the arcade mode. In this mode you still play the core campaign but everyone is scored. Depending on amount of kills, rescues and so on you get a score. It doesn’t really do much but add a taste of competition to the 2-4 player campaign, but it definitely adds to the fun factor.

Horde 2.0 is a ton of fun. The addition of “buying” emplacements and so on really adds to the depth. For those that love the original Horde from Gears 2 though, the hardcore lovers of the mode, you might be a touch disappointed that it’s been changed. For me, it’s a change for the better.

There are a ton of other multiplayer modes that I just haven’t gotten to yet, but I will update my review when I finally get a chance to play them.

Graphically this game is nothing short of amazing. Unlike previous games in the series there doesn’t seem to be any screen tearing in the campaign (EDIT- later in the game there was some minor tearing). I haven’t experienced any in the Live modes I’ve played, but reserve commenting further until I spend more time with it. In the Beta there was screen tearing galore, so I’m hoping they focused on fixing it for release.

Music is Steve Jablonsky (Gears Of War 3 The Soundtrack). If you enjoyed the music in Gears 2, you’ll enjoy it here as well. Orchestral, moody and pitch perfect for the scenes in which the music plays. I miss the Gears 2 title screen song, but hey, this is Gears 3 and it needs to be refreshed.

Sound effects and voice work are equally amazing. All the voice actors from the previous games make appearances here as well, including fan favorite Cole. Really high quality work.

Over all the game feels like a truly worthy upgrade to a truly classic series. I’ll miss the further adventures of Marcus and gang, assuming we don’t really see a sequel or extension (highly unlikely, right). It’s like closing a chapter with friends.

Definitely worth $60. I bought the Gears of War 3 Epic Edition and love it, but the game on its own stands tall.

EDIT 9/21/2011 – I’ve now spent a total of 10 hours in the campaign. This is me playing from Act 1-1 to Act 2-6 on my own, then playing through the same with my 65 yr old father. We were both having a blast with it. We also had a few people join the party and we went through part of Act 2 w/ 4 people. Despite the larger amount of people there were still plenty of Grubs to kill for everyone and still had some challenge to it. With 4 decent player characters though, even hardcore is a touch “easy.”

BEAST MODE- this is one awesome addition to the franchise! You and a party of up to 4 other people (5 total) take control of the Locust and get to try and kill as many humans as possible. It uses a money concept similar to the emplacements and weapons in Horde 2.0 (which also feels a lot like the way it works in say, Call of Duty Black Ops zombie bits). You have to purchase your Locust and as you kill more people, you get more money, which enables you to buy better and better Grubs, all the way up to a Berserker, which is awesome! If you only have 30 minutes to play Gears and have some buddies on Live, this is a fast paced, frenetic jump of fun for sure!

NEW WEAPONS- the sawed off shotgun is the weapon of choice for many a multiplayer fan. I’m personally not big on the tactics used w/ the weapon in multiplayer but once you get the hang of it, it makes a decent up close weapon. In the campaign though it’s not really a weapon you should be using. You have to get far too close to enemies to kill them, and in the case of the Drudges, you don’t want to be near them when they blow up!

Retro Lancer isn’t bad. The handling is different, the active reload timing is different and using it like a spear takes getting used to. It seems to be more powerful than the chainsaw Lancer, but they built it to feel like a prototype of the chainsaw version, so they did a good job making it feel like an evolution from the retro to the regular. Good stuff!

The Digger – you fire a projectile towards an enemy, it burrows underground and pops up near the enemy and explodes. It can be pretty devastating if you can get it to hit.

That’s all for this edit. Thanks for reading!

EDIT- 9/23/2011

Played more campaign last night. I now have at least 15 hours on the campaign. For those of you that have read the campaign is really only 10-15 hours, I’ve replayed Act 1-3 w/ my father over Live and we made it to Act 4 last night and watched the story bits every time which is why it is taking so long to finish.

After spending this much time with the campaign, I have to say I continue to be impressed. There is one level that I think will be the best in the game. It’s Act 3 Chapter 1, which I won’t name as I don’t want to give anything away in my review, and it is simply astounding. It was frantic, it was hectic and 100% fun. I actually wanted to jump out and restart the mission when it was over.

And what happens at the end of Act 3 Chapter 6 is unexpected and for me at least, quite emotional. You’ll understand when you get there and do yourself a favor, try not to read any spoilers on-line.

I’m hoping to finish the campaign tonight or early this weekend, at which point I’ll stop editing my review.

With 15 hours into the game, I can still say that this is definitively the best Gears game of the 3 which is absolutely no small feat. With all the multiplayer modes, all of which are amazing fun and a decently lengthy campaign which can be played w/ up to 3 other people, there should be enough to keep you busy for some time to come. Definitely worth the price.

EDIT 9/24/2011-

Finished the campaign last night with my father. From start to finish I would say the game took 12 hours. This includes us dying, watching cut scenes, listening to dialog and so on. If you buy the game for the single player campaign, you might find this to be a bit too much money for too little time spent, HOWEVER, with the multiple difficulties and the ability to play with arcade scoring on, I’m sure you’ll have fun going through at least 3 times, though subsequent play throughs will take less time given you’ll skip cut scenes and dialog. So figure 6-9 hours per campaign play through, which means you will get 24-30 hours play time out of it, minimum.

The game is well balanced. There wasn’t really any level or any section of the game where myself, nor my father, felt the difficulty spiked unevenly. Given this is Epic, I didn’t think this would be an issue and it isn’t.

The game is a ton of fun and with all of the multiplayer game types you can probably play this game quite a lot and never find yourself bored.

This will most likely be my last edit. Enjoy the game!

Moore
This is the most COMPLETE game I have ever played. I honestly can’t see myself thinking “hmmm. I wish they had this on this game!” Everything is here. Great campaign!Including that it is 4 player co-op online and 2 player split screen offline. Things like that make this game accessible no matter what. Which is why I love it. Played the campaign for about 3 hours and everything is set perfectly. Same great characters plus more, great action and everything is balanced to not give you the feeling that you’re getting bored or doing too much. With all that said, I dont want any spoilers so I’ll stop there.

Arcade Mode- I believe this is another great addition. If you’ve play Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare. You’ll remember their Arcade Mode. I loved seeing the points pop up as if I was at an arcade or even playing the multiplayer. I just loved that aspect of it and it also adds a level of competitiveness with friends. Thats about all this mode offers though, but still great fun.

Horde 2.0- If you’re a fan of killing, killing and more killing. You’ll love Horde 2.0. Horde 2.0 adds more depth to the previous games Horde. I remember my cousin playing with me and using the shield to block off Locust. I wondered why I didnt think of that myself? Guess I’m just not as creative. lol, but now with kills and downs. You earn money to by things such as: weapons, barricades, decoys and bases. All of these things add a whole new level to the Horde. Making it so that now you and your friends can literally create a base and blockade to defend yourselves through the endless amounts of hordes. (actually i think the last level is 50 but it feels endless lol.) I can see Horde 2.0 adding a lot of replay hours to this game seeing as how fun it is.

Beast Mode- I only played the first 12 levels of this on casual to get the idea of what it was. You can pick which Locust you want to be but you have to pay for it. So the points you earn killing go to the beast you are. The catch is you only get a minute to kill the however many survivors and you gain more time as you go on killing them and destroying their turrets and machines. I found this mode fun since I always wanted to know what it was like to be on the Locust side of the Horde. My only problem was that I found myself going back to certain Locust with guns since that’s what I was comfortable with. I think that’s only me though and others will have great fun with this mode.

Multiplayer- Yes Multiplayer. What everyones been waiting for. Honestly Im not going to spend much time of this review on it. Its everything thats been talked about or from Gears of War 2. I believe they added more modes (ie Deathmatch). Though from playing the matches that I have so far. It’s smooth and responsive and I think thats most important. The guns are amazing. I truly think that they are balanced and you just have to find your match. I prefer the Lancer and Gnasher but others differ of course. The characters are better than ever. I say that because there is more of a variety of characters to choose from and unlock. As well as gun skins, badges and ribbons. This all gives the game much more replay value.

To end this off. This game honestly gives you your $60 worth! There are some “extras” (mainly gun skins) that you have to pay real money for. But they arent taking away from the game by any means. This game gives you great modes for however you feel and offers online and offline gameplay even with bots. Making it feel as if you are always connected and never missing out on more fun. Also the graphics are amazing just as any other Gears of War game. I would highly suggest this to any shooter fan seeing as this is the most complete shooter out there at the moment.

Update 9/25/2011- Hey guys. Just wanted to update the review a bit. After playing this game for countless hours and getting some feedback in the comments section, I felt it would be good to update you on more of the details. I’ve played more into the campaign, Horde Mode and multiplayer. As another reviewer said the Beast mode is only 12 levels. Which is a real let down honestly. At one point it leaves you wanting more and another may make you happy that it’s over. Once you unlock more Beasts and Locusts it gets easier if you have the money to spend. The Berserker is supposed to be blind but I found myself find enemies perfectly and destroying them with one hit. You start of with a minute to kill every survivor and there are more notable Gears characters that you have to kill as well. Along with the challenges, there will be more to bring you back to at least finish those out. Other than that this mode isnt as appealing as the others.

Horde 2.0 is crazy fun with friends. Having up to five players in the party stealing kills, setting up blockades and upgrading everything is a blast. Teamwork is needed to survive, this is no cakewalk. 50 hordes of enemies until the end takes a couple of hours, loads of patience and good teamwork as I stated. The more you level up your turrets, barricades, sentry guns and even a huge gorilla suit. You’ll upgrade enough to where they cost less and defend better. You’ll want these things to distract and protect you from the locust since in later waves (every 10 to be exact) Locust will gain 2x health, 2x accuracy and you take 2x damage. But this mode is great fun and adds a ton of replay value compared to the Beast mode.

Multiplayer- I believe the multiplayer is very unique compared to other shooters. Specifially what caught my eye with this game is that if you arent good they arent necessarily trying to make it so that you are better or equal the playing field if that makes any sense. If you arent that great at this game, it’s going to show. Unlike say Call of Duty where they give you perks and other tools to somewhat equal the playing field. Not to say they dont give you the tools to get better. As I state above, you can play with bots on or offline and at any of the 4 difficulties. So you can practice all you need to with certain weapsons, levels or difficulties all you need to before you jump right into the online world of Xbox Live. ANOTHER thing is that these bots arent aimbots. They actually feel more so as if you’re playing human players. Just not as great becuase I have seen some great guys on xbl. Along with that, there are dedicated servers and you wont run into lag as much depending on your own connection. This is great. Matches run smooth making you want to play this multiplayer more. Also there are a ton of unlocks! Ribbons, Medals, Mutators, Characters. As you level up through all of the modes, you will gain these. Gaining them all is no easy task but its fun in the process and will be very very time consuming.

I didnt want to get too much in the campaign before but I have to note a few things. The 4 player co-op runs so amazing! I havent had any hiccups or disconnects with it and Im in Germany playing with 3 friends from all around the United States. The story is so much better than I expected. No spoilers for the people who have yet to play but this is a great follow up and and ending to such a great series. Im on Act 4 now and its about 5 acts. It’s said that the campaign is about 10 hours and I’ve been playing on Hardcore for about 8 so I see the end coming soon. I just cant believe how much fun I’ve had though. They’ve fixed alot from previous games and the beta and it shows. Some things still dont work as need but I can see patches roll out to fix some of these. My biggest gripe is when you want to retro lancer someone and you charge at them. You have to charge from about 20 feet away. I guess that only makes sense to gain the momentum but I would like something other than to do just bump into them. But thanks to the other reviewers Stephen and Snake for the feedback as well.

S Thomas
Update…I picked up the 3D pack for my mits 73″ and tried GOW3 last night. Absolutely INCREADIBLE. The game is already great but going in with 3D brought me into the world of gears…the depth, the clarity was mind blowing. I spent a good 40 mintues just walking around in the game just see the textures and the way the ground had depth and feel and the characters looked at a distance, the airships really looked like they were flying, the bullet impacts had depth to them and could see them impacting the ground as I walked them into the enemy. Grenades looked like they were really flying…you get the picture…if you have the setup by all means give it a shot…if your on the fence about buying a 3D starter pack for your TV, GOW 3 IS THE REASON TO DO IT…simply AMAZING…and to think this was not a dedicated 3D game, but EPIC did an oustanding job….

I have played all three gears over the years and so far this one is the best imo. I was kinda worried at first as it started very slow kinda dragging it out but I guess that was to get the newbies going with the controls and feel. However, by Chapter I Act III it started heating up and has not let up since. I really enjoy the movie episodes it really brings the campaign together. The amount of detail is amazing and all the medals and ribbons one can earn is great. I really enjoy the Horde game, but my son is into the Beast and all are very fun, and the bosses are crazy tough. Many have wrote very detailed reviews on this game, all im going to say is if your on the fence or have never tried Gears Of War then jump in you will not be dissapointed. Although you can start with GOW3 to completely emerse yourself in the gears world you should pick up GOW 1 and 2 and when you get to 3 you will feel a part of the COG and then see how much effort was put into 3 to make it the best of all three!

People have been raving in regards to the PlayStation 3, the stunning graphics, the cell chip processor, the blue ray and it is aweinspiring capabilities.

Flashback 15 years ago. Capcom freed Street Fighter II for arcades. Tecmo freed Tecmo Super Bowl for NES, and Sega freed Sonic the Hedgehog. Nintendo releases the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

The release of the 16 bit Sega Genesis in ’89 developed contest with Nintendo who was antecedently dominating the home solace internet gaming market. However, in ’91 SNES brought Nintendo in front once again.

At this time Sony was nowhere to be found in the gaming industry. However, at this time Sony had seen the power of the video game consoles, and started out quietly working on a consolation that would rival Nintendo and Sega as the best game consolation on the market at the time. The Sony PlayStation became the firstborn ever game solace to trade over 100 million game units in March of 2005. The Sony also had the capability to play audio CDs, as Sony refused to say it was strictly a game console. This trend continued as it freed the PlayStation 2, and it became the quickest retail console, syndication over 105 million copies amidst October 26th, 2000 and March 31, 2006. The PS2 had the capability to not only be backward compatible in playing PlayStation 1 games, but it likewise played music, as well as DVD movies.

Flash back to the present time and Microsoft has now entered as a major player introducing their 2nd game console the Xbox360, which followed the Xbox. And even even though Nintendo didn’t have outside revenue from things such as stereos, computer software, home appliance and amusement systems, they refused to be held back from being a major player in the game solace market. They freed the Nintendo Wii that will compete not only with the Xbox360, but was freed in time for the Holidays to compete with the new PlayStation 3.

The PlayStation 3 is not one thing short of amazing. The blu-ray drive makes it possible tor play ultra high density optical discs competent of storing digital media, including high definition video, permitting for a lot of of the most stunning graphics you have ever seen. It also, comes with bluetooth wireless controller and most significantly the cell processing chip, the same chip employed in numerous supercomputers.

According to wikipedia, for the duration of the Japan release on November 11th, 2006, the PlayStation3 sold 81,639 copies within the introductory 24 hours. It remains sold out and was found marketing for as high as $15,000 on Ebay. If the 20 GB built in hard drive isn’t enough, the PS3 also comes in a premium version containing not only a 60 GB hard drive, but multiple flash card readers.

Will we see a PlayStation 4? Not only is the answer sooner then a lot of humans think, but according to Sony’s Ken Kutaragi, they plan on freeing it within the next decade.

“My dream, and the dream of all my team, hasn’t finished,” Kutaragi told the BBC recently. “In fact we haven’t achieved even half of what we’re going to do.”

“We want to lead with the PlayStation 3, and beyond that to the PlayStation 4 within the next decade.”

One may only speculate on what the future of PlayStation is going to bring. It’s hard to imagine it getting much better, but yet, each single release manages to innovate and exceed expectations. But one thing is for certain, they will always look to provide more for their hungry consumers, and they will proceed to look for ways to improve engineering science beyond current capabilities.

Introduction

Report writing is a time consuming business so it is a great shame if, having committed all that time to writing your report, the quality is such that hardly anybody may be bothered to read it. Quite frankly, most report readers do not genuinely read all the report; they are too short of time. You might as well know it and receive it — that is normal. They only read the parts that interest them. Frequently these are the summary, the determinations and recommendations.

Of course, a heap of readers do need all the details you so conservatively included, they are specialists, but most do not. Most readers just need two things: that the data they want is where they suppose it to be so they may find it, and that it is written distinctly so that they may understand it.

It is similar to reading a newspaper. You suppose the news headlines to be on the front page; the sports coverage to be at the back; the TV listings on page whatsoever and the editorial comment in the middle. If what you want is not in it is popular place then you have to hunt for it and you may get irritated. So it is with a report.

There is a convention as to what goes where. Stick with the convention and please your readers. Break the convention and humans may get somewhat irritated – and bin your report.

So what is that convention, the ordinary format?

Standard Sections

Title Section. In a short report this may merely be the front cover. In a long one it could also include Terms of Reference, Table of Contents and so on.

Summary. Give a clear and very concise account of the main points, main conclusions and main recommendations. Keep it very short, a few percent of the total length. Some people, particularly senior managers, may not read anything else so write as if it were a stand-alone document. It isn’t but for a lot of humans it might as well be. Keep it brief and free from jargon so that any person may comprehend it and get the main points. Write it last, but do not copy and paste from the report itself; that seldom works well.

Introduction. This is the firstborn share of the report proper. Use it to paint the background to ‘the problem’ and to show the reader why the report is crucial to them. Give your terms of reference (if not in the Title Section) and explain how the details that follow are arranged. Write it in plain English.

Main Body. This is the heart of your report, the facts. It will in all likelihood have various subsections or sub-sections each with it is own subtitle. It is distinguishable to your report and will describe what you came upon with regards to ‘the problem’.

These sectionalizations are most likely to be read by experts so you may use a heap of suitable jargon but explain it as you introduce it. Arrange the data logically, normally putting things in order of priority — most important first. In fact, follow that counsel in each section of your report.

You may choose to include a Discussion in which you explain the significance of your findings.

Conclusions. Present the logical determinations of your investigation of ‘the problem’. Bring it all together and perhaps offer choices for the way forward. Many persons will read this section. Write it in plain English. If you have included a discussion then this section may be rather short.

Recommendations. What do you suggest will have to be done? Don’t be shy; you did the work so state your recommendations in order of priority, and in plain English.

Appendices. Put the heavy details here, the selective information that only specialists are likely to want to see. As a guide, if a heap of detail is necessary to your argument then include it in the main body, if it merely supports the argument then it could go in an appendix.

Conclusions and Recommendations

In conclusion, do not forget that readers suppose sure data to be in sure places. They do not suppose to hunt for what they want and the harder you make it for them the more likely they are to toss you report to one side and ignore it. So what ought to you do?

1. Follow the in general accepted format for a report: Summary, Introduction, Main Body, Conclusions, Recommendations and Appendices.

2. Organise your data in each section in a logical fashion with the reader in mind, commonly putting things in order of priority – most primary first.

Good luck with your report writing!

C. Kinkaid
When I first heard about MLB Front Office Manager I was very excited. I’ve always enjoyed the management aspect of sports games and usually spend much more time managing and toying with the rosters than I do “playing” the sport itself. Enter MLB FOM. My sports prayers have been answered, right?

Not really. I’ve played through one season, and I can’t even bring myself to get through my second offseason as a GM (I’ll explain below). So with out further ado, lets get down to the good, the bad and the OMG what where they thinking?

The Good:

The interface is clean and the options are incredibly realistic. It runs pretty smooth. Anything you could want management wise in sports game. Not only can you offer arbitration, participate in the Rule 5 draft, and scout the world for talent, but you can also offer incentives, control your 40 man roster, and run every imaginable aspect of a baseball front office. You get frequent email updates informing you of various things around the league, but these quickly become a nuisance.

The Bad:

Where to start? The music is bad but that doesn’t really matter. Trades are horrible. Its nearly impossible to trade for anyone, even when they are on the trade block, unless you grossly overpay in talent. What’s mind bending is that when the AI makes trades, they seem to be almost laughable, but when a real player gets involved, the gloves come off. There is no way to gauge a players interest in resigning, an by the time you know they aren’t interested in your bid, they have signed with someone else. The menus are tedious and you can’t sort by things that really matter, like overall talent rating, the ability to hit for power or average, etc, on most screens. In fact, the only way to find out a players skill ratings is to go player by player and look at their info on a separate screen. This makes scouting for hidden talent in other teams farm systems incredibly time consuming and not enjoyable. The fact that the players don’t seem to evolve during the season regardless of how good or bad the play throughout the year. The only times I have seen ratings change is when the calender goes from Dec 31 to Jan 1. The big problem with this is that you can vastly overpay for players when you resign them or nab them on the free market. I resigned a 2B to start (rated 50, more on that in the next section) only to see him drop to 35 Jan 1st. he went from being my starter to not even making the MLB squad. Ratings should change before you resign players or sign free agents. Also, most teams seem to resign their free agents before the signing period starts, so there are very few good options to upgrade your team in the offseason.

The OMG What Where They Thinking:

The three things that drive me crazy in this game: The way you resign your own players, the ratings system for players, and random “game manager mode.” First, resigning players. Negotiating your MLB players is fine. What kills me is negotiating with all the minor league-ers in AAA, AA, A+, A, and SS (rookie league). The problem is that every single minor player will gladly except a minor league contact (does not count against your budget) for 1 year. If you offer more than 1 year they will reject you 99 out of 100 times unless you offer a lot more money. The problem? You have to go into every single player and offer them a deal. This wouldn’t be so bad if the game left you at the screen where you resigned your minor leaguer. But, instead, it jumps you back to the MLB tab. So you have to click on the minor league level tab every time you want to resign a minor leaguer. Whats worse is that you can’t even sort them by overall talent, so you have to look at each player individually before going back and offering a contract. So if you have 25 players at each minor league level (5) and then you have to click three times per player (once for the level tab, once to check their ratings and once to offer them a deal, you are looking at 375 clicks. It became so time consuming that I gave up before I finished with the AAA squad. Secondly, they ratings are very strange. They range from 20-80, where most games range 0-100. The problem here is that you end up with the vast majority of players falling between 45-55. Anything over 60 is a “great player” and 70 or over is elite. Somehow, Mark Texiera is only rated 60! In fact, the only player rated 80 is that certain picture the Yanks threw a ton of cash at earlier this year. Its just a very odd way to rank, makes some players seem ranked well below their skills and makes you feel like you are overpaying for everyone. Lastly, there is a mode where you can “manage” your team on the field. You can’t play anyone, its greatly sped up, you can’t really “scout” your talent, and the presentation is horrible. I really wonder why they added this feature at all. It would have ben better if they added commentators or something. Also, on a side note, you can’t even focus on certain players to help them develop. I could go on but i’ll stop.

The Verdict:

If you are looking for a game that resembles work more than it does entertainment then this game is for you! You get the feeling as you plod along playing this game that 2K Games just threw this game out there to milk the last untapped segment of their MLB License. There are so many things that could have been better. One thing I didn’t rant on was the interface. They took this game directy from their XBox360 platform. I mean this literally, and they didn’t even bother to remove the xbox icon buttons telling you how to differnt things. If you do decide to get this game make sure you but a PC Xbos usb controller. Also, many of the features seem like they should have been side notes added to their main flagship, MLB 2k’9.

If you are looking for a great gaming experience that mixes fun, game play, and management AND you have a PS2 or a PS3, save you money and buy MLB The Show 09 when it comes out. Its the best baseball game out there, has many of the management features that this games has AND they have added the rule 5 draft and arbitration for the upcoming release.

Gratz
Even though you can’t actually pitch, bat, or field in this game, the chance to simulate being a GM with real players, trades, waivers, free agents, the Rule V draft, and sabermetric stats, and then watch the games, sounded like fun to me. It’s not, though, because it doesn’t get any of those things right. For example:

1. The statistics are incorrect. If your starting pitcher gives you two innings, but your team wins the game, the starter still gets the win. The game is filled with misinterpretations of the basic rules of baseball, like this one.

2. There is no way to sort players by their skills. Clicking on each player in every league one-at-a-time, and scribbling the results on a spreadsheet, makes the game unrealistic and tedious at the same time.

3. The players, especially the stars, seem to have been assigned skill levels based on random chance, rather than an appraisal of their abilities or statistics. Also, players’ skill ratings change dramatically from year to year, often with no relationship whatsoever to their age, health, or stats. (Using the realistic 20 to 80 rating scale is great, but the ratings the game assigns to the players are random, and change randomly.)

4. Unlike in real baseball, you can immediately trade anyone you just signed as a free agent. In real baseball, you have to wait until midseason to trade a free agent that you signed that year.

5. Unlike in real baseball, you can call up to the majors and send down to the minors players (who have options) without the mandatory ten day waiting period.

6. No lists of top prospects, either in the aggregate or by position, are maintained. (I’m not convinced that the AI is sufficient to figure out who the top prospects are, anyway.)

7. The AI is far more artificial than intelligent. Top prospects like Mat Gamel are placed on waivers in 2009 (without any reason, such as an injury). The computer-controlled general mangers lack distinct philosophies and strategies.

8. Even if you create your own players or edit the existing ones, you cannot use your edits in all aspects of the game. The players you create or edit are restricted to certain game modes.

In short, this game is not worth your money; it wouldn’t even be worth playing if it were free. In my opinion, it is the direct result of the lack of competition in baseball games that began when MLB sold the exclusive rights to make baseball games to 2K Sports.

Matteson
Before you purchase this game, make sure you validate that your video card meets standards – or you’ll waste $40 on a non-returnable game! 2k admits on their forum that most (MOST!) on-board video cards cannot run this game!!! My computer is 2 years old, I upgraded my video card at the time, and it’s now too outdated to run this game. This is not just my issue, it’s all over the 2k forums – so many people have been posting about this issue… furious that 2k made this game for such a narrow consumer group. Not to mention their Service is a joke and doesn’t respond promptly or with any apology or assistance.

Rabbit Year 2011 is considered with regard to the characteristics of those born for the duration of Rabbit Years. Influences of the 5 Elements upon these humans are outlined and galore frequent recommendations made before well-known links amidst longevity, Rabbits and this fourth Sign of the Chinese Zodiac are discussed

Year of The Rabbit (2011)

Your birth year, the Fourth Sign of the Chinese Zodiac? If you become 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72 (and so-on in 12-year increments). among 3rd February 2011 and 23rd January 2012 (when Rabbit Year ends) or recognise of a baby due for the duration of this period, this article might interest you and, similarly, those with partners, friends, relatives or colleagues in this category. Others might wish, in general, to discover what Chinese Culture and Tradition has to say when it comes to those born in The Year of The Rabbit.

Animal Games

Once, the animal Olympics were held to determine which animal ought to begin the cycle thru a race ending with crossing a raging river before a sprint home. Smart rat gave the cat the faulty get started time, sneaked a ride on Ox’s back over the river and dashed over the finish line initial (Ox came second). The cat (Tiger) arriving late for the race came third, was furious, and accordingly has been chasing the rat ever since! Lucky Rabbit (see below) found a heap of stepping-stones and arrived next.

Rabbit Resume

Essentially Rabbits are relaxed, laid back and into respective forms of cultivation. They are considered the most fortunate of the 12 Animal signs of the Chinese Ganzhi System. They seldom gamble (being conservative at heart and risk-averse) but do so skillfully when tempted. They are dependable and trustable and the last to renege on contractual commitments but may be a little too easy-going at times. Fond of gossip they are articulate, virtuous and well-liked. In kinship terms, Rabbits, who receive pleasure from secure comfortable home-life, are most ‘at-home’ with those born beneath the Signs of the Sheep, Dog and Pig and least with those born under the Signs of the Rooster and Rat

Animals in Their Element

Underpinning the continuing 12 Year Animal Cycles is a 10-Year Elemental Cycle (5 Elements repeating sequentially in initial Big Yang and then Small Yin Mode) with the Year Element (Yin Metal in the case of Rabbit Year 2011) modifying both Year Energies and Rabbit person natures as shown below, So far, in this new 12-Year Cycle (beginning in 2008) Year Animals and Year Elements have been: 2008 Yang Earth Rat; 2009 Yin Earth Ox; 2010 Yang Metal Tiger and 2011 Yin Metal Rabbit. These will be followed in 2012 and 2013 by a Yang Water Dragon and Yin Water Snake respectively.

Rabbit Retrospective

Those born this Rabbit Year will be Yin Metal Rabbits but in earlier 12-Year Cycles this inevitably varied and their ‘resume’ requires modification as follows.

2011  and  1951  Metal  Rabbit:  Metal  gives  these  strength  and  endurance  (elemental  colour  white);

1999  and  1939  Earth  Rabbit:  Earth  ensures  the  are  well-  grounded–  most times  materialists  (elemental  colour  yellow);

1987  and  1927  Fire  Rabbit:  Fired-up  these  may  be  Impatient,  unpredictable  and  outgoing  (elemental  colour  red);

1975  and  1915  Wood  Rabbit:  generous  dreamers  often times  versatile  but  introspective  (elemental  colour  green);

1963 and 1903 Water Rabbit: Water makes these sensitive, aroused and eloquent (elemental colours blue/black).

Rabbit! Rabbit!

What does this mean for Rabbits? Well, becoming 12, 24, 36, 48 or 60 etc., in 2011, the Chinese believe one will have to spend time quietly meditating over the last 12 years and planning for the next 12–the precise opposite of the Western notion of wild birthdate celebrations– rather a very quiet year expended focusing on self-review is indicated. You ought to avoid/put-off digging trenches, building foundations or laying drains i.e. major undertakings such as moving house (which would distract from this). I’m an Ox did this in Ox Year 2009, finding it a most utile experience.

Combining the 12 Animal and 5 Elemental Cycles gives 60 as a figure to consider and Rabbits reaching this key age in 2011 may be particularly well-advised to undergo this rewarding exercise. Year Animal/ Element birth compoundings repeat after 60 years (hence the importance of self-review at this time) and if we add in the Yin/Yang dimensions of these calculations we get 120 asa figure to contemplate. The Chinese believe living in concord with nature and the universe enables such lifetimes and the 12 Animals and 5 Elements plus their Yin/Yang attributions represent these forces.

Rabbits gazing at the next full Moon must (like the Chinese) see themselves, (a Rabbit), there, standing underneath a tree, paw keeping the elixir of life. From their reproduction rate, there’s never going to be a world rabbit shortage! Thus the rabbit is a Chinese longevity symbol– it is lunar emplacement emphasises this thru links to the procreative cycle. The 5 Elements, the 12 Animals.their Yin/Yang associations and longevity are all good subjects to meditate on for the duration of Rabbit Year 2011.

Other store have them for like 2.99 a pack. Is this just one pack for this much? WHY?

The cards are fun, and if you like collecting stuff , which is kind of the point of this game, the cards make a nice extra collection also the lay the path to making your townsfolk truly happy. The shirts they wear on the cards are the shirts you should send them.

BUT as much as I love amazon, DO NOT BUY them here. This price is horrbly inflated for no apparent reason. Seriously Retail from nintendo’s official site online store they are 3.29 per pack!

13 of 15 people found the following review helpful.
Interesting addition to the game, but what’s with the price?
By Jeffrey Martin
As of this writing (08/11/2003) the price of these cards on Amazon.com is almost double that in walk-in software stores and big-name superstores. That having been said, the packs are already too expensive in those locations.

The cards are a convenient way to scan in an item or two (or write a letter to your in-game “Friends” in exchange for a gift in the mail. Some rare, some VERY VERY common. Some of the cards also contain special patterns (for clothes and umbrellas) or town-tunes to replace the tune on the board outside the post office. They are fun to use, and a good way to get some “free” items in game, but for the most part they are not necessary.

One neat thing these cards add is the occasional GameBoy Advance-only mini-game. Tug-o-war, Fortune telling… Some of them offer some hidden codes to mail to the animals.

All in all these are merely a novelty. If they added something to the game that youo could not otherwise get, then they might be worth the hefty price tag. Do yourself a favor and either borrow some from a friend. Only buy these if you are really interested in starting a new card collection.

I would have given these 3 stars for their novelty, but the price here is attrocious.

I scanned them all in, and I found it ruined my game. Items that would have had to work hard for, were automatically put in the game all by scanning a card. Some of the cards just put boring everyday objects into the game. You can go onto Ebay and get a bunch of the cards for maybe 10.00. The price is worth it on here, only if you’re a collector.

But in my humble opinion, these cards made Animal Crossing boring, and too easy. I haven’t played it since. If you’re looking for the challenge of the game, don’t bother with these cards.

In the state of Catalonia, not far from the Costa Daurada, is the gorgeous seaside resort town of Salou. This shimmering heaven on the Mediterranean draws thousands to it is shore each year because of it is vast beauty but Salou wasn’t always the tourist attraction that it is known as today. Thousands of years ago, for the duration of the reigns of the Greek and Roman Empires, Salou was employed as a strategically important port for the duration of both war and peace. In the middle Ages, Salou was a hotbed of pirate action that was widely considered one of the most dangerous places in the world. It wasn’t until Spain’s glory days for the duration of the 14th and 15th centuries that Salou became a respectable town and it has been a favored destination for people around the world ever since.

Salou draws a good deal of persons to it is beaches because of the jaw-dropping natural landscape as much as for the terrifi Mediterranean climate. Like other Riviera cities including Nice and Cannes, Salou has marvelously warm weather in the day and cool, inspiring breezes at night. Much of this idealisti climate has to do with the fortuitous placement alongside the rolling hills and mountains of Spain which themselves add to the splendor of the cityscape. In spite of all this finelooking scenery, a lot of people who flock to Salou eschew the eye candy and rather indulge in one of Salou’s much loved theme parks. Not not similar to Orlando, Florida, Salou boasts numerous unbelievable manmade attractions that, while not as strictly beauteous as Spain’s coastline or mountain ranges, are themselves works of art in their own right.

Port Aventura, for instance, is an exceedingly standard theme park that was formerly owned by Universal Studios and is now owned by the country of Spain exclusively. Boasting such major roller coasters as the Dragon Khan and the Hurricane Condor, which has one of the tallest freefalls in the world at over one hundred meters high, Port Aventura is a treasure trove of adventure for children and adults alike. The most immediate roller coaster in all of Europe, the Furius Baco, is likewise found within. The nightlife of Salou is impressive sufficient but each night, contained within Port Aventura, the stellar Fiesta Aventura occurs. This massive party comprises of floats, fireworks, and massive dancing displays that enthrall visitors and develop memories at the same time.

Costa Caribe, even though littler in stature than Port Aventura, is another standard theme park in Salou and it helps to further increase the massive tourist traffic that Salou gives rise to each year. Whether you are visiting to take in the vast natural landscape, frolic on the pristine beaches, or take on a good deal of of the most horrifying roller coasters in the world, you may rest assured that Salou will steal your heart with it is a lot of fantastic diversions. There are a great deal of paradises found alongside the Mediterranean but Salou just may take top honors thanks to it is eclectic blend of fun, adventure, and beauty. Be forewarned, though: Once you step foot on Salou’s famed Llevante Beach, you may fall in love and never return home again.

It makes Carnival Games look GENIUS in comparison. As the other reviewer said, you only get 1 free game in each of the 5 sections, so you must play so many times & do well enough in that game alone to earn enough tickets to play the other about 5 games in that section. All the other games cost 10-50 tickets each to play once & they only give you 10-100 tickets each, some only 20 even if you get the top score & play perfectly. Did I mention that in order to get to the next section you must have bought the prizes with said tickets? It’s bad enough it looks cheap, dull & the auctioneer in each section have horrible, inane, non-helpful things to say, but also all the games are the same, but in different themes. I got to section two before I was tempted to throw my wii remote. Both had a non-moving objects shooting gallery, both had a whack a mole game, etc. A game that forces you to play games repeatedly ad nasueum to get to anther section. why don’t they force you to watch a good movie as well & take any possible fun out of that too? Oh, the ride if you earn enough tickets? Is just another “game” such as section 1 is you shot out of a cannon & have to hit the botton displayed at the right time as you go through obstacles. Like a slow rhythm game. OOhhhhhh. You know a game is bad if on the commericial the actors have to dress up & do lame things to seem like they are having fun instead of just showing gameplay. Unless the gameplay SUCKS.

There are several review sites like IGN com which even shows you video of several minutes of gameplay. I rented this & I still want my $3 back.

While not a horrible game, it does get borring quite fast. Like other reviews say, alot of the games in each section are the same game with different themes…and some games are almost impossible to complete (and I am not just saying that because I am bad at video games, I had friends who play video games constently that couldnt complete some of these games). There are alot of things to unlock, and different outfits you can dress your character in, but that all gets old real fast. They have almost the same concept in Carnival Games, but for some reason that just seems alot more fun to do. With so many of these type of games out there, you can easily pass this one up.

RGB cables are named so, because the plugs at the ends of the cables are color coded red, green and blue. There are a assortment of RGB cables. All RGB cables are a type of factor video cables. Component video cables are competent to split video signals into three dissimilar signals. Two of the three signals control how much red and blue there is in a picture. They are called the B-Y and R-Y components. The third signal, called the luminance signal handles black and white info and controls the luminance of a picture. It is many times called the Y component. Unlike composite cables, there is no compression of any signals. Because of this the depth of color and solution achieved is superior to composite video and is even an betterment of S-Video setups.

RGB is still once in a while used on computers but is growingly being substituted by digital formats that require digital video interface cables (DVI cables). Some of the a lot of gimmicks that are RGB input gimmicks and use RGB cables and technology are color televisions, digital cameras and scanners. There are also various RGB output widgets that are applied very often. They include, computer and cell phone displays, television sets with a assortment of display types such as cathode ray engineering (CRT), liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma display or LED display, video projectors, and the huge screen displays called JumboTron that are applied at some sporting facilities and amusement venues.

RGB analog composite video signals will have to always be combined with a great deal of other signal in order to function properly. One of the ways this is done is called composite sync. In any type of display, the solution is determined by the number of pixels that are arranged both vertically and horizontally on the display device such as a computer monitor or a television monitor. The number of vertical lines in the display is always fixed. The vertical lines are likewise oftentimes referred to as scan lines. However, conversely the number of pixels that are in amidst each vertical line may vary. The amount of pixels determines the horizontal resolution. Depending on the capacity of the monitor or display output, the quality of solution achieved may vary. In this type of setup, both the horizontal and vertical signals are combined on a wholly discerned wire. This type of synching is called RGBS. A true composite signal is achieved by utilizing four wires. They are colored red, green, blue and a plug for sync which is ordinarily white or yellow in color. Another way to combine signals is called discerned sync. In distinguished sync, the horizontal and vertical signals are each carried on a discerned wire. This type of synch is employed in RGBHV setups. Separate sync is mutual in VGA gimmicks such as analog computer monitors. Separate sync requires five dissimilar plugs. They are color coded red, green, blue and either a combining of yellow and white, yellow and black, or gray and black plugs.

25 of 25 people found the following review helpful.
Troubleshooting Tips of This Product and Its Basics
By HDMI
This is to provide some troubleshooting tips for the new VHD-H2YVs (Support 1080P and 5.1CH Surround Sound) unit.

1) Can’t get picture on TV?

Cause: HDMI video source sends video in a format that is not supported by the TV.

This newest version can support HDMI 1080P input and convert it to either 1080P component or VGA output, therefore the EDID code at the HDMI inputs of this unit will tell the HDMI video source that it can support HDMI video format upto 1080P, so that if your new TV / VGA monitor can support 1080P component / VGA input, then the HDMI video source can provide 1080P to get the best picture for your investment.

But this also cause some problems, because most HDTVs (including most 1080P TVs) can only take 1080i component input, therefore, if the HDMI video source sends 1080P video, the VHD-Y2YVs unit will convert the HDMI 1080P into component 1080P, then you will not get picture on your 1080i TV. In such case, users have to manually set the HDMI video source to send video in a format that is supported by their TV.

The back end of this unit is component video, it is a one way link form the converter to the TV, the converter and the HDMI video source unit have no idea of the display capability of the TV. (This is not like the case in HDMI, which is two way link, so the display can use its EDID to tell the HDMI video source about its display capability, so that the HDMI video source can send video using the highest supported format to the TV) Therefore, unless buyer has the newest HDTV that can take 1080P component input, it will be a required step: to manually tell the video source to use the format supported by that particular TV.

The converter doesn’t change video resolution/format from HDMI input to component output: 480P in, 480P out; 720P in,720P out; 1080i in, 1080i out; 1080P in, 1080P out; the only thing change is from HDMI signal to component signal.

This is not a plug and play situation for 1080i or lower TVs, unless there is a nature fit: such as most cable / satellite boxes use 1080i, and your TV is also 1080i, then it become a plug and play unit; but if you switch to a Blu-ray player which most likely uses 1080P, then you have to manually set it back to 1080i for your 1080i TV, otherwise, you will not get picture.

In difficult situation of not sure whether your setting is right, or the unit is defective, always find a TV that can take 1080P to cross check.

AppleTV only outputs 720P, and ROKU 2 XS only provides 720P and 1080P, so for such devices, the display must support 720P. A lot of 1080i TV can’t support 720P, so please don’t assume that a 1080i TV can take 720P automatically.

We have two buyers using this converter for the old 1080i Mitsubishi WS-73909 and WS-65909 TVs, they reported they couldn’t get picture using this converter. One buyer verified this by taking the converter to a local store, and it worked there perfectly, but with the same setup on the old Mitsubishi, it can’t produce a picture.

Mitsubishi WS-A65, WS-65315 has the same problem as well.

2) Audio Problem?

There is a 2CH/5.1CH switch on the unit, it is used to modify the audio EDID code, which is used to tell that HDMI video source that the unit can take either 2CH stereo sound (which is the case for most TVs), or 5.1CH surround sound (which is the case for SPDIF to surround receiver application).

In 5.1CH mode, if the HDMI video source sends audio in 5.1CH format, then the 3.5mm stereo L/R output jack will not have sound; so to get audio from the 3.5mm audio jack, the unit needs to be in the 2CH mode to get stereo sound.

Also, when the switch is in 5.1CH position, it doesn’t mean that the sound will be 5.1CH surround sound, it will be whatever the audio sent by the HDMI A/V source; if it sends surround sound, then you get surround sound from the SPDIF output; if it sends 2CH stereo, you still get stereo from the SPDIF output, it depends on the source material.

Also in 5.1CH mode, some buyer complained that they don’t get the right sound from their receiver. This is the receiver codec / decoder / format coverage issue. There are many different surround formats from DTS / Dolby that distribute audio in 5.1 CHANNEL, just make sure that you pick the right 5.1CH surround sound format that is supported by your receiver.

If you use a Blu-ray DVD Player and have audio problem in 5.1CH mode, please check to make sure that:
Blu-ray DVD Player Audio setting is in “Audio(HDMI) Auto” Mode
Blu-ray DVD Player Audio “BD Audio MIX Setting” mode is OFF

3) Dark Video?

This unit delivers outstanding video quality that is clear and bright. But, if wrong cable is used, such as the Yellow/Red/White RCA AV composite cable is used instead of good quality component video Red/Green/Blue, then the video will be very dark.

25 of 25 people found the following review helpful.
This device saved me from buying a new television.
By Ric Warren
I have an older 2004 Toshiba 65″ HD projection TV. It has always worked well with DVDs and our area finally got HD television service about a year ago. So now we can finally enjoy our HD television for all it’s worth. Suddenly after about 6 months of service we started receiving an error message when we turned on the cable TV. “Your HDMI cable does not support HDCP”. More recently I purchased an Apple TV2. After a few months and a software update I received the same message. Apple support told me it was because my older TV was not HDCP compliant. The solution would be to buy a new television, but it seemed ridiculous to waste over a thousand dollars for a new set when this older one works fine. This device solved my dilemma. It works well to bridge the gap between old and new technology. Any HDMI device can be hooked up through this box with RCA style component cables and avoid the HDCP problem. Recommended!

I bought an Apple TV2 and I have an older plasma TV that has no HDMI hook-ups. I tried an HDMI to DVI cable and the only thing the Apple TV2 did was show a white apple logo on a black screen. I knew that I had to get a HDMI to Component converter box to make this work. Most of the converters I saw were in the $200 to $300 range. Most of the cheaper converters got bad reviews. However I took a chance on this one and the chance paid off. This converter was easy to hook up and the picture quality on my Plasma looks awesome. There is also a second HDMI port on the converter so you can connect another HDMI only product to the TV.

So far, I like what I see. I also own a Kindle 3 so that’s the only device I can really compare it to at this time (I think a comparison between other tablets and this Kindle is meaningless, this device is all about content and delivery):

1. Form-factor – Compared to the Kindle 3, this Kindle feels more compact, lighter and easier to hold. My hands wrap around this better than K3. Reading books for a few hours at a stretch will be easier on this device compared to the K3. It is the lightest such device I have used compared to all previous Kindles and other tablets.

2. Screen – I personally like the fact that there are no keys on the device and that keys come up on the screen when you need them. Delivers a better overall reading experience. However, navigating through the on-screen keyboard with the 5-way controller can be taxing if you need to do a lot of searching, and you might miss the full physical keyboard. I hardly search on the Kindle itself, I search for books on my laptop so this is a non-issue.

3. Price! – At $79, you can’t go wrong. Compared to buying paperback or hardcover editions, you will recover the cost of this in a matter of a few months because most Kindle content is priced cheaper than print editions (and you get it instantly, and can access it wherever you are). Not to mention all the free Kindle downloads available in the catalog.

4. Display – almost the same E-ink display at the K3. No glare no reflection. You can sit in bright sunlight and read it just like a book. Page turns seem a lot faster on this compared to the K3. Screen size of the Kindle 3, this new Kindle, and the Touch is exactly the same in size.

5. Wi-Fi – this can be a pro or a con (no 3G) depending on a user’s personal preference. If you travel often and would like to be able to download content anywhere without worrying about getting a wi-fi connection, you’re better off sticking with the K3 or waiting for the Touch/Fire. For me, 3G is not a major issue.

6. Text to Speech and Audiobooks – These two features are lacking in this device. I personally have never used these features on my K3. If you listen to audiobooks or TTS or music on your Kindle, again the K3/Touch/Fire might be better options.

7. Storage – this device can store 2GB which they claim is approximately 1400 books. For me, that’s a massive storage capacity and it will be years before I get close to that capacity. Again, if you download books occasionally and have a moderate Kindle downloaded content on your device, 2GB is plenty. Of course, think ahead and see how much you would expect to download in the coming 2 years (I am assuming the device will be outdated and replaced within this time-frame).

8. Battery life – too early to tell but Kindle battery life tends to be great. Specs state that the battery life of this device is 1 month compared to 2 months for the Touch or K3. 1 month is plenty (Android phones need to be charged every hour!). At least I know that if I’m going on a long flight, this device won’t need charging if I charge it up in advance.

9. Power adapter – this Kindle does not come with a power adapter, only a USB charging cable. You can either buy it separately for $8-10, or use your existing USB power adapter. Any USB adapter would work with the charging cable (previous Kindle versions, Apple’s portable devices, and most HTC phones, come with a standard USB power adapter that would work for this device). There are also plenty of $2-3 adapters available here if you search for USB chargers.

Bottom line – the choice between this basic Kindle, the K3 Keyboard, the Touch, and the Fire is really a personal preference. This device itself is meant for the minimalist Kindle user who, like me, reads say a 2-3 books a month, wants a device comfortable to hold, and doesn’t need any fancy bells and whistles on the device. I guess it depends on what you use your Kindle for. If it’s just the basics, this is the perfect device to get.

In my humble opinion, the choices:

(i) If you have a DX or an old Kindle version, or if you don’t have a Kindle yet and are an average book-reader, this is definitely the one to get – baseline model that is affordable and is a pure e-reader.

(ii) If you have Kindle 3 and don’t really need an upgrade, I recommend sticking with the K3, it’s a better device than this one in terms of features. If you do need to upgrade, the Touch is probably a better option because of all the additional features, at a small incremental cost.

(iii) If you’re looking for the loaded full-on Amazon content experience with access to all the apps, streaming audio and video, and playing the “strangely therapeutic” Fruit Ninja, wait for the Fire!

I sincerely hope this review helps you decide whether this Kindle is right for you. If you are still unable to make a decision, it may be worthwhile to wait for the Touch and Fire to be released, and see the reviews on those devices before making a final decision.

Ts
First off, I received my new Kindle this morning. I previously owned the Kindle Keyboard, but actually really didn’t like the keyboard or the way the buttons were pressed together. I’m not a fan of touch screens so I bought this one.

There are a few things to know about this particular Kindle that can help you decide if it’s right for you…

Here is a list of things to know about this Kindle.

1. You’ll be using an onscreen keyboard with the 5-Way Controller. This is not a problem for setting up WiFi and a little writing but if you are an avid note-taker or do a lot of writing with your Kindle, you might want to opt for the Kindle Keyboard.
2. NO AUDIO – If you are planning on listening to audiobooks, Mp3s, or Text to Speech on your Kindle, this is not the device for you. There is not even a headphone jack, so there is absolutely no audio support.
3. 2GB! This device has 2GB of storage, which is half of all the others… if you seriously need to keep over 1,400 books or so on your Kindle, you should opt for one of the others, all of which have 4GB. I only keep a hundred or so books on mine and the rest are up in the Amazon Cloud waiting for convenient download.
4. There’s no 3G version but the WiFi works just fine.
5. There is a shorter battery life. Amazon reports the battery life is only one month of reading, compared with the others that clock in at two months. If you are going to be away from electricity for over a month, first of all RESPECT!, second of all, you may want a Kindle that has the 2 month battery life.
6. It’s lighter than all the other versions. It weighs in at just under 6oz (170g). The closest competition is the Kindle Touch which is about 7.5oz.
7. It has 5 buttons on the face at the bottom. In the middle is the big 5-Way Controller button as found on other Kindles. There are two small buttons on either side of this. On the left side, from left to right are the “Back” button and the “Keyboard” button. The “Back” button is the same as on other Kindles. The “Keyboard” button calls the onscreen keyboard onto the screen. On the right side of the 5-Way Controller are (again, from left to right) the “Menu” button, and the “Home” button. The “Next Page” and “Previous Page” buttons are the same as on other Kindles.
8. Because of the above 5 buttons, I find it much easier to use than the Kindle Keyboard. On the Kindle Keyboard, the “Back” button was right below the 5-Way Controller, and I accidentally hit it on more than one occasion.
9. On the bottom there is only the mini-USB port, the charging light, and the On-Off Button.
10. There are not a whole lot of covers available for this Kindle yet. (Amazon’s won’t be available until the end of October.)

As for reading, and as a pure reading device. It is awesome… in fact, without the keyboard, audio, and other features I don’t need. This is actually the best one for someone like me who just wants to read.

I’ve already successfully transferred my library, downloaded books over WiFi, and borrowed library books through the Overdrive Library eBooks System. My only small point of dissatisfaction is that there are so few good covers and accessories right now (though there ARE some available that look pretty good).

All in all, I believe this is the BEST of all the Kindles currently available. Only consider others if you:
a. Really want the touch screen version.
b. Need audio.
c. Need 4GB
d. Need a big Kindle DX.
e. Take a lot of notes or do a lot of writing that requires a keyboard.
f. Prefer the design of another version.
g. Need more than a month’s battery power.

Hope this helps someone make a good decision!

(Brief update: I love this Kindle, but right now the scarcity of good, inexpensive covers for it is a little troubling. The Amazon made leather one with light won’t be available until November or so and there are currently no inexpensive ones to use in the interim. I’ll just have to use it gently for a month or so.)

Update on cases:
I mentioned this in the comments section, but I’ll repeat it here for people who can’t yet find a good case -

Checking the specifications for the Kindle, Nook Touch, and Kobo:
Nook Touch
6.5 x 5 x 0.5 inches
Kobo Reader
6.5 X 4.5 inches
Kindle (4th Generation)
6.5 x 4.5 x 0.34 inches

It looks like the Kobo is about exactly the same size and the Nook Touch is slightly longer. If you need a case but can’t find one that you like yet, it may be worth a little hunting to see if a nook or kobo case or cover might fit the bill.

1142 of 1207 people found the following review helpful.
The most compact Kindle yet. Extremely legible display, snappy performance
By M. Erb
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RWG7OQ5NMGUMW I was thrilled to receive my new Kindle. I ordered it Sep 28, chose overnight shipping and it arrived (Sep 29) just a few minutes ago. Usually I use a device for a while before reviewing it. In this case, I felt it was important to do a quick review right away because if it can help you in your purchasing decision, so much the better.

If you are a little perplexed with all the various Kindle models and are wondering if this Is the Kindle for you, here are a few questions for you to consider…

1. Do you need text to speech capability or have the desire to listen to mp3′s on your Kindle? If you can live without that, then proceed. This Kindle does not have a speaker thus is not capable of text to speech or playing sounds of any kind including mp3′s.

2. Is color important to you? This is not a color Kindle, it is gray-scale. If you are mostly wanting to read books then this will work for you exceedingly well. The e-ink screen is gorgeous, sharp and provides the ability to change font size, font face and line spacing. It even displays photos quite nicely, but in gray-scale. And you can even zoom in on images.

3. Is a physical keyboard a necessity for you? If you like to make notes and annotations while reading, you may want to look at another model Kindle that has a physical keyboard. Although this Kindle has a screen-based keyboard, it is tedious to type more than a few words or URL’s. It works very well for minimal typing but it’s not for you if you need more than that.

4. Is compact size important for you? Then this is the one to get. It’s thin, light and diminutive in size. Slips easily into a purse, pocket or inside pocket. It is so light which makes holding and reading with one hand for longer periods of time very easy.

5. Do you want to be able to occasionally use a web browser to access a web site? Well surprise surprise, you can do that on this Kindle. It’s an “experimental” feature but it works quite well. It’s been experimental for years, so I’m not quite sure why it’s still labeled experimental. But in any case you can visit websites, save bookmarks and it works.

I also own the original Kindle with the SD card slot. Compared to the original Kindle, this new one is svelte. Thinner, lighter and notably, the e-ink on this new Kindle is vastly improved. In low interior lighting with gray overcast lighting outside, I’m able to easily read the Kindle. It is amazing how the screen almost glows, as if it were backlit. Of course it is not backlit and in fact will not work in the dark. But if you have a small reading light, that solves that problem. Otherwise in most other situations you will pleased with the excellent sharpness and clarity of the Kindle text.

Page “turning” was very snappy to me especially when compared to my old Kindle. The black page flash that occurs on every page turn on the old Kindle does not occur nearly as frequently with the new Kindle. It now occurs after every 5 page turns.

The fact that there is no physical keyboard means that this Kindle is absolutely the easiest to carry Kindle ever. Fits nicely in the hand and the slightly grippy surface makes you feel secure in holding it… it will not easily slip out of your hand.

Setup was a breeze. The Kindle immediately identified my Wi-Fi network and as soon as I entered my password using the onscreen keyboard, I was good to go. Signal strength indicated very high on the Kindle and I did not notice any degradation in signal no matter how I handled it.

As concerns the onscreen keyboard, it was easy and intuitive to use. I don’t expect to have to use it very often and for me I’d rather have no physical keyboard because that makes the Kindle smaller and easier to pack and go.

You still get the typical Kindle tools, such as Highlighting, Notes, Annotations, Public Notes and a few others. You can upload PDF and TXT files and view them. You can easily transfer prior Kindle purchases to your new Kindle. You have the ability to create “collections” Once you’ve created a collection, you add items to it and this is a great way to organize many books.

I have not had this model long enough to comment on battery life, but I’m sure that based on my previous Kindle and the specifications that it will excel. I believe that reading 1/2 hour a day will let you go a month before needing a charge if Wi-Fi is off. That’s pretty awesome. It is charged via the included USB cable and that can be from your computer or via an AC to USB power adapter, or in-car power port USB adapter.

And don’t worry that the memory has decreased in this Kindle. There is still more than enough memory to hold well over 1000 books. And you archive books too which means they are just a click and a few seconds away from being downloaded back to your Kindle from the Amazon Cloud.

Regarding the ads… they are not objectionable. In fact (don’t tell this to the advertisers) I didn’t even notice that there was an advertisement on the home screen until I deliberately looked for it. It takes up just a small portion of the bottom of the screen and is no taller than an inch in height. I don’t know for sure whether all ads are the same size but the one I’m looking at is very unobtrusive. The screensaver ads are full page and don’t bother me at all. And of course, you may just end up getting a good deal on something. I LIKE the ads. Just today I got a couple from an ad that saves me $5 on a $10 Amazon purchase in addition to my choice of a selected list of Mystery/Thriller books for only $1. Love the deals!

I think Amazon has another winner on its hands with this ad-supported Kindle. You just can’t beat it for reading and I’m so glad I got it.

If you have any questions please leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer them.

UPDATE: 10/16/2011 – I had the opportunity to compare the display of my new Kindle with that of a friends who had a Kindle with keyboard. I’m not sure how old his is, but his display actually had a somewhat lighter colored background which made the legibility slightly better in my opinion. I was quite happy with the clarity, sharpness and contrast of my new Kindle until I compared with him. Now I’m a little conflicted. It’s still great, don’t get me wrong, But it’s not an improvement necessarily over the previous generation as far as I can tell. It’s also possible that there are variations in the e-ink display depending on the luck of the draw. I may question Amazon about this and will report back here if I do. I’d still get this in a heartbeat, but just wanted to let you know about the contrast issue.

UPDATE: 10/17/2011 – There is a new firmware update for the Kindle that addresses the page refresh issue. The new version is 4.0.1 If installed, you will see an additional option in the Settings panel on page 3 called “Page Refresh.” This allows you to have the Kindle refresh the page at each page turn (the screen flashes black briefly.) Otherwise the Kindle will not refresh the page until after each 5 page turns.

UPDATE: 10/19/2011 – I called Amazon Kindle Support to discuss the screen darkness issue I mentioned above. They said they’d send a replacement which I’ve just received. I’m happy to say that the screen background is in fact -slightly- lighter in color on the new Kindle I just received. I’m happy and probably would have still been happy had I not replaced it. But at least I am psychologically satisfied now. The difference in background color was extremely subtle so I wouldn’t worry at all about it if you are happy with your newly purchased $79 Kindle. However there do seem to be some circulating that are more obviously darker and if yours is one of those, then contact Amazon.

UPDATE: 12/6/2011 – Wow, the way these specials offers are going, this Kindle is going to end up being free. I just got another $10 Amazon gift card for $5 the other day. Plus a free Audible Audiobook and 50% off a Kindle cover. Loving the special offers.

To repair Sims 3 crash on Windows you need to recognise the error code. It is very helpful to know the error report.
Make it sure you have the applicable graphics drivers installed into your system that may bear the load of Sims 3 game. It is likewise wise to delete the group cache file after the gaming session since the game utilizes huge resources of the computer.

The most essential thing you will have to do along with these steps is to exclusively clean your computer from concealed registry errors.
Editorial ReviewCrash Bandicoot, the poster marsupial for PlayStation, is back. In this third installment of the usual action-game series, Dr. N. Trophy has built a time machine to gather the gems and crystals dropped by Dr. Neo Cortex. Joining this dastardly group is Dr. Cortex’s boss Uka Uka, a freaky drifting mask that is out to crush Crash. It is up to Crash and his sister, Coco, to conquer this threatening threesome and grab the goodies.

Warped offers 25 levels of challenging solo action. If you have a dual shock controller, this game takes full vantage of it is vibration feature, which is specially fun when a dinosaur is chasing Crash. The music is suitable to the action and the controls are easy to use. But it’s the graphics that make this a stand-alone title. A team of artists worked on this game to design seamless motion that is more like an interactional cartoon than a game.

Novice gamers will receive pleasure from this title for it is ease of motion and challenging gameplay. Hardcore gamers will be grateful for it is concealed mysteries and shortcuts. And how may you go wrong with Arabian cities, underwater worlds, medieval times, menacing frogs, pirate-head cannonballs, and creepy scorpions? Crash Bandicoot Warped is a goofy game with sufficient fun features to satisfy both diehard and beginning gamers. –Kasty Thomas

GameSpot ReviewCrash Bandicoot started life as Sony’s try at a mascot. He did reasonably well but never rather caught on like Mario or Sonic. But disregarding of his status as a mascot, Crash has always managed to make a good game. In Crash Bandicoot 3, the evil Dr. Cortex is up to no good yet again with a new band of henchmen for you to defeat. This time the game takes place throughout a great expanse of time and space, making for principally diverse level designs, which in turn keep the game fresh.
The 30 dissimilar levels are for the most part composed of the same 3D platform-jumping obstacle-evading Crash levels that we’re employed to. Some levels, however, concede you to take control of vehicles such as a biplane, motorcycle, or Jet Ski. These levels are closely like little minigames that spice up the action and break up themonotony.
As before, when you go through the levels you are rewarded with crystals and gems. In Crash 3, you may also gather a relic for beating a level within a sure amount of time. Also new to the third game is the capacity to learn new moves upon defeating a boss. Abilities like the super belly flop, double jump, super spin, and super run unquestionably help you to get through the levels faster. These moves will likewise aid you unlock mystery levels. Visually, Crash 3 is flawless. The smooth reputation animations and bright, colorful landscapes make the game look like a cartoon. Amazing attention to detail and pretty lighting effects give torches, lasers, and other illuminating objects in the world a life of their own. All of this along with a refreshingly fast and steady frame rate effortlessly makes Crash 3 one of the most gorgeous PlayStation games ever.
Crash 3 even delivers in the audio department. It has outstanding music, sound effects, and reputation voice-overs that are not only exceedingly well done, but the onscreen lip-synching is closely utterly matched to the voice.
In the end, Crash Bandicoot 3 is without apparent effort the best Crash yet. Every aspect of thegame is better: new moves, levels, bosses, graphics, sound, and gameplay. It’sthe most fun I’ve had with a 3D platform game in a long, long time. It’s a must-have for fans of platformers.
–Copyright ©1999 GameSpot Inc. All rights reserved. The game is not incrediably huge, but it has alot to offer. Intelligent level designs, whacked-out bossess, and eye-pleasing graphics await you on your journeey. This is a journey that will keep you playing for awhile, since that after you initially beat a level and get the crystal, you can go back and play the level in a time-trial. If you get through the level in under a certain amount of time, you can get other rewards that can unlock more levels and playable characters after you beat the game. And, with the $19.99 price tag, it is more than worth the money. If you have this game and really, really like it, i suggest you dish out $20 bucks and pick up Sypro the Dragon, also in the greatest hits promotion. In the end, I suggest that you buy these 2 games for the price of one new game, and you’ll be playing for quite awhile. Have fun!

It is not an easy game that you will beat in a day. This game is challenging which makes it fun. There are many different vehicles and animals to ride like a motercycle, airplane, waverunner, tiger and more. It is really fun to race for first place to get the gems. You play in different periods of time like Egyptian periods and more. The graphics are unbelievably realistic. If you like this game I would also recommend Crash Bandicoot 1 and 2. Crash Bandicoot 3 is a game you just have to try!

When I played Crash Team Racing I loved it! It was easy to play and the various levels made the game more interesting.

When I saw this game I didn’t think it would be that great, but it’s a good game. If you liked the racing in Crash Team Racing, you’ll also like the various scenarios in this game. You get to ride a tiger, a motorcycle, and you even get to ride some sort of sword fish underwater. In addition, various other Crash-only stages are added. For the price of the game, I would definitely recommend adding this one to your collection of titles.
